October 19th, 2018

Georgia Connectivity Partners, of which World Fiber Technologies (World Fiber) is a member, has been selected as one of three finalist for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Statewide Broadband Deployment Project.

“World Fiber built the network GDOT is going to expand statewide,” said World Fiber President and CEO, Mark Battle.  “This experience isn’t something anyone else brings to the table and we believe it sets Georgia Connectivity Partners apart from the competition.”

The design, build, finance, operate and maintain project will consist of the broadband fiber optic cable and small cell wireless network along GDOT right-of-way interstates across the state. This would also include management and maintenance of current and future GDOT broadband fiber optic network and would allow for the commercialization of the network.

“The digital divide was once a problem of access, now it has become an issue of connection, quality and speed,” said Battle. “Capitalizing on state owned right of way for broadband fiber and wireless technologies, Georgia’s legislative and DOT leaders are keeping Georgia at the forefront of economic development, educational enhancements and rural growth.”

Georgia Connectivity Partners includes World Fiber Technologies, Star America, Zayo, Black & Veatch, Overland Contracting Inc., Commdex, Parsons and Business Transformation Group.

GDOT expects the request for proposal responses will be due during summer 2019 and a final decision is expected to be announced by the end of 2019.
